Loepa katinka, termasuk
ngengat kaisar emas, adalah spesies ngengat yang termasuk dalam genus Loepa
dari keluarga Saturniidae.
Ngengat ini biasa ditemukan di Asia Tenggara dan Asia
Selatan dan kali ini saya foto di Indomesia, tepatnya di Nanga Tayap, Kabupaten
Ketapang Indonesia.
Lebar sayapnya dibentangkan sekitar 95 – 120 mm dan panjang tubuhnya 30 – 40 mm.

Ngengat ini dinamai oleh Westwood tepatnya John Obadiah
Westwood seorang ahli anatomi dan arkeolog Inggris yang juga terkenal karena
bakat seninya.
Lahir di Sheffield, ia belajar untuk menjadi pengacara
tetapi meninggalkannya untuk kepentingan ilmiahnya.
Dia menjadi kurator dan kemudian profesor di Universitas
Oxford dan juga anggota dari Magdalen College, Oxford. Westwood adalah Fellow
dari Linnean Society dan presiden Entomological Society of London.

Ngengat kuning yang menarik ini memiliki garis-garis cokelat
tua di sepanjang tepi depan sayap depan. Setiap sayap memiliki bercak mata
cincin cokelat kemerahan di tengahnya. Sayap juga bermotif dengan garis
bergelombang coklat kemerahan halus.
Ngengat Jenis kelamin jantan dan betina, sama bentuknya.
Tahap Awal, Caterpillar alias ulat berwarna coklat gelap dengan marmer
berwarna coklat muda dan hitam, dan memiliki kutil biru metalik. Di sepanjang
sisi adalah bercak kuning segitiga.
Ulat memakan tanaman merambat (Vitis dan Parthenocissus).

Loepa katinka, the
golden emperor moth, is a species of moth belonging to the genus Loepa of the
family Saturniidae. It is found in Southeast Asia and South Asia. Its wingspan
measures 95-120 mm and its body is 30-40 mm long.
This Moth, given name by John Obadiah Westwood was an
English entomologist and archaeologist also noted for his artistic talents. Born
in Sheffield, he studied to be a lawyer but abandoned that for his scientific
interests. He became a curator and later professor at Oxford University, He was also a Fellow of Magdalen College,
Oxford. Westwood was a Fellow of the Linnean Society and president of the
Entomological Society of London
This attractive yellow moth has a streak of dark brown along
the leading edge of the forewings. Each wing has a reddish brown ringed eyespot
at its centre. The wings are also patterned with fine wavy lines of reddish
brown.
The sexes are alike.
Early Stage, Caterpillar is dark brown marbled with light
brown and black, and has metallic blue warts. Along the sides are triangular yellow
parches.
The Caterpillar feeds on vines (Vitis and Parthenocissus).
